Unclassified School Bus Training & Recruiting Coordinator needed for the Transportation Department

-  unclassified - $50,000 - Full time Position.

 

 

MAJOR FUNCTION: Recuit and train new school bus driver trainees, coordinate and provide recertification classes for existing school bus drivers, ensure all active school bus driver credentials are up to date, perform as a substitute driver as needed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

[Recruit and Train School Bus Drivers and Trainees]
- Ensure prospective school bus driver candidates successfully complete the on-line employment application process. This activity may require going over every aspect and requirement of applying for the job on-line as well as assiting candidates to obtain all necessary documentation based on the requirements.
- Evaluate applicants through interview process and make hiring recommendations to the Supervisor of Transportation.
- Instruct, teach, and train all school bus driver trainees to become fully licensed school bus drivers in accordance with State, Federal, Local, and the District Policy.
- Schedule and coordinate recertification classes per the PennDOT guidelines.
- Provide tutoring sessions, as necessary, in the yard or on the road to help school bus driver trainees to obtain full PennDOT credentials to drive school buses.
- Administer the new EDLT (Entry Level Driver Training) for new drivers and enter all results into the new training provider registry databased required by the FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration).
- Assign responsibilities to other instructors to provide training.

 

[Driver Credential Management]

- Maintain an electronic driver credential database to track each driver’s credential expiration dates
- Regularly communicate with school bus drivers to keep all documents up to date
- Comply with driver background check compliance audit requests
- Resolve any driver credential issues with PennDOT
- Verify all drivers licenses with PennDOT at least twice a year to make sure all drivers lienses are valid
- Provide support to drivers that struggle keeping up with the credential requirements

 

[Perform as a Substitue Driver]

- Perform as a substitute driver in case of driver shortage
- Participate in the field trip, athletic trip, and special education trip rotation, if available

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills, and/or ability necessary.

1. Certified Pennsylvania School Bus Instructor
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills
3. Strong database management skills
